Saphenectomy, parvectomy

Saphenectomy, parvectomy are surgical procedures on large varicose veins with lesions affecting also the greater saphenous vein and/or the lesser saphenous vein (vena saphena parva). The treatment consists in stripping, i.e. introduction of a special probe into the vascular lumen and mechanical removal of the pathologically changed vein. The removal of even both of the veins: the greater and the lesser one, does not cause any disturbances in the circulation. It improves the venous system dynamics, and the function of removed veins is taken over by deep veins.

Procedures of this type are performed in a one-day setting, under general anaesthesia. After the surgery, haematomas are formed on the limb, yet they are gradually spontaneously absorbed within 2-3 weeks. To ensure a better cosmetic effect and not cause a recurrence of varicose veins, it is necessary to wear compression stockings during the day for 4-6 weeks.
