Extension of the Achilles tendon
An overly short Achilles tendon may be due to a congenital defect, pathological contractures or increased muscle tone. Children affected by the disorder walk on their toes, unable to place the entire foot against the support. Upon discretion of the physician, the disorder may be treated by kinesis and physical therapy, immobilization in a plaster cast, injection of botulinum toxin into the tendon, or surgical elongation of tendons.
