Club foot (talipes equinovarus)
Club foot (talipes equinovarus) - a congenital deformation consisting in persistent flexion of the sole of the foot and forefoot adduction - in other words, the feet are inward-directed and crescent-shaped. The disorder is thought to originate from genetic burden or improper fetal position. The treatment of the disorder should start as soon as possible, preferably in the first weeks, initially with conservative treatment: massages and plaster casts; however, if the results are not satisfactory, surgical treatment is planned. In children below six years of age, surgical interventions are performed within the soft tissues. Permanent correction by means of foot bone surgery is performed after the age of six. After the surgical procedure, immobilization, specialized shoes and appropriate protective devices are required. Unfortunately, recurrences of the disorder are possible.
